Workbook: Learn a little Spanish

Goal: pick up handy phrases for a trip, your neighbors, or just for fun — with a patient practice partner.

You don't have to become fluent to enjoy a new language. AI can teach you a handful of useful phrases, spell out how to say them, and even quiz you — at whatever pace feels comfortable.

We use Spanish here, but this works for any language: French, Italian, German, or brushing up on one you learned long ago.

You
I'm visiting my granddaughter in Mexico and I don't speak any Spanish. Can you teach me a few useful phrases?
AI
¡Claro! (That means "Of course!") Here are the essentials, with how to say them: Hello — Hola (OH-lah) · Please — Por favor (por fah-VOR) · Thank you — Gracias (GRAH-see-as) · Yes / No — Sí (see) / No (no) · Excuse me — Perdón (pair-DOHN). Practice those out loud. Want me to add a few for restaurants or asking directions?
🔤 Notice: the part in parentheses is the pronunciation, spelled the way it sounds — far easier than reading Spanish spelling. Ask for that and you can say things right away.
You
How do I ask where the bathroom is? Write the pronunciation the way it sounds.
AI
"Where is the bathroom?" is ¿Dónde está el baño? — say it like DOHN-deh es-TAH el BAH-nyo. (The "ñ" makes a "ny" sound, like the middle of "canyon.") A friendly tip: start with "Perdón" (pair-DOHN) to say "excuse me," and you'll sound very polite.
🎯 Notice: you asked for the exact phrase you needed, with sound-it-out pronunciation. Ask for precisely what's useful to you.
You
Can you quiz me on the ones you've taught me, just a few at a time?
AI
Love it — let's play! I'll say the English, you tell me the Spanish (out loud or typed). Ready? 1) Thank you. 2) Please. 3) Where is the bathroom? Take your time — I'll check your answers and cheer you on.
🎲 Notice: "quiz me" turns the AI into a patient practice partner. If you use voice, you can even practice speaking out loud and have it talk back.
